The Role An exciting opportunity has arisen for an accredited Financial Investigator to join the Economic Crime Team. This role plays a vital part in the disruption of organised crime by targeting, identifying and recovering criminally derived assets, supporting both proactive and reactive financial investigations. You will work in line with Threat, Harm and Risk priorities, using criminal and civil legislation to pursue asset restraint, seizure, forfeiture and confiscation, contributing directly to the reduction of serious and organised crime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive financial investigations to identify, locate, freeze, seize, restrain and confiscate criminal assets.
  • Support economic crime investigations through the effective application of criminal and civil legislation.
  • Compile high‑quality prosecutors’ statements and financial evidence for court, in compliance with confiscation legislation.
  • Prepare, retain and disclose case material in accordance with disclosure principles and legislation.
  • Interview suspects, witnesses and victims using PEACE/BITS interviewing models.
  • Apply PACE search and seizure powers lawfully and proportionately.
  • Work closely with prosecuting lawyers and partner agencies to support court proceedings.
  • Contribute to proactive operations targeting organised crime groups, using appropriate overt and covert investigative techniques.
  • Maintain Financial Investigator accreditation through continuous professional development.

 

Knowledge and Experience

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, and/or experience in a financial or investigative environment.
  • Experience of planning and managing basic criminal and civil investigations.
  • Strong knowledge of banking systems, asset ownership structures and the national and international movement of money.
  • In‑depth understanding of legislation, policy and procedures relating to asset identification, restraint and confiscation.
  • Familiarity with court procedures and the criminal justice process.
  • Good level of literacy, numeracy and analytical ability.
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

 

Essential Accreditation

  • Successfully completed the National Financial Investigation Accreditation Programme.
  • Completion of the Financial Intelligence Officer Portfolio and Financial Investigator Portfolio.
  • Commitment to maintaining accreditation through ongoing CPD in line with NCA requirements.
