Speed Concerns Coordinator
Location: Preston
Pay Rate: £16.90 per hour PAYE
Hours: 7.4 hours per day, 5 days per week
Contract: 3-month initial contract plus extensions

About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Speed Concerns Coordinator to join the Safer Roads Unit based in Preston.
This is an important role supporting the Constabulary’s response to public concerns regarding speeding and road safety. You will coordinate complaints, assess available information and work closely with internal teams, external partners and members of the public to ensure concerns are dealt with appropriately and effectively.
You will play a key role in ensuring speeding concerns are properly assessed, prioritised and actioned, while helping to improve public confidence and satisfaction with the Constabulary’s response.

Key Responsibilities
As a Speed Concerns Coordinator, you will:

  • Coordinate the Constabulary’s response to public complaints regarding excess speed.
  • Review and assess information relating to speeding concerns using relevant systems and available data.
  • Interrogate computerised systems to identify relevant information, including speed count data, detection data, locations, dates and times.
  • Assess complaints and apply appropriate priority grading to support effective allocation of resources.
  • Task internal teams and external partners where additional information or action is required.
  • Liaise with a wide range of stakeholders, including Safer Roads teams, Tactical Operations, Neighbourhood Policing, Traffic Managers and partner agencies.
  • Provide accurate and timely information to relevant teams to enable appropriate action to be taken.
  • Monitor activity and ensure outcomes are recorded appropriately for evaluation and audit purposes.
  • Communicate with members of the public regarding action taken, planned activity or where no further action is considered necessary.
  • Prepare clear, professional written and verbal responses to public enquiries.
  • Promote the Constabulary’s approach to dealing with speeding concerns.
  • Attend internal and external meetings, providing updates on progress, activity and evaluation.
  • Disseminate relevant information and updates to partner agencies.
  • Maintain a consistently high standard of customer service, with a strong focus on quality and professionalism.
  • Organise and prioritise your own workload, working with minimal supervision.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the nature and grading of the role.

About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Experience providing specialist advice and guidance relating to policies and procedures.
  • Experience of traffic enforcement equipment.
  • Experience of maintaining and updating computerised systems accurately and efficiently.
  • Experience interrogating computer systems to produce reports and management information.
  • The ability to assess information, identify logical and informed solutions and take appropriate action.
  • Knowledge of current road traffic legislation, including speed limit orders and temporary traffic regulation orders.
  • Experience developing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team and contributing positively towards shared objectives.
  • Experience dealing professionally with members of the public.
  • The ability to maintain strict confidentiality and use tact and diplomacy where appropriate.
  • Strong self-motivation and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to organise, manage and prioritise your own workload effectively.
  • The ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to communicate across a wide range of people and settings.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of relevant Force IT systems would be advantageous.
  • A willingness to travel on Constabulary business.
