About Us
Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) is a five-force collaboration delivering specialist counter terrorism services across the region as part of the national CT network. Our mission is simple yet vital: to work together to keep people safe from terrorism.
Job Purpose
As a Counter Terrorism Intelligence Officer, you will play a critical role in safeguarding national security by:
- Establishing whether individuals are engaged in the commission, preparation, or instigation of acts of terrorism
- Gathering, assessing, and disseminating intelligence relating to Counter Terrorism, Domestic Extremism, Counter Espionage, Counter Proliferation, and Serious & Organised Crime
- Reporting on the movement of individuals and groups who may be involved in such activities
Essential Skills & Competencies
- High-level interpersonal and communication skills, including advanced interview techniques to elicit intelligence and produce accurate reports for internal and external partners
- Strong report writing skills, meeting the high standards required for dissemination to agencies outside the organisation
- Sound understanding of current national security matters to ensure accurate interpretation of intelligence
- Experience in information handling and assessment, with the ability to research, analyse, and report effectively
- Ability to work independently, manage tasks efficiently, and demonstrate self‑motivation, confidence, and flexibility in responding to change
Technical Knowledge
- Fully trained in the use of Force IT systems including PNC, NICHE, CORVUS, and STORM

Eligibility & Vetting
- Nationality: You must be a UK national. Dual nationals (where one nationality is British) may be considered
- Security Clearance: Applicants must hold or be willing to undergo National Security Vetting (SC Enhanced) before appointment and be prepared for Developed Vetting (DV) if required
- Applicants should have resided in the UK for the last 5–10 years

Additional Information
- The role may involve occasional travel across the North West, particularly during arrest or premises search operations
- If you are currently employed by a different police force, you will be required to resign and take up a contract with Merseyside Police before being seconded to CTPNW. Your service will transfer with you
