We are offering a funded secondment for an experienced communications lead to join our team, supporting high-profile projects across UK policing.

Join Police Digital Service as a Communications Officer. Part Time – 2 Days a week (14.5hrs). Secondment Opportunity – around your current role.  Initially for 8 weeks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shared Vision
  • Explain that the strategy aims to make policing resilient to cyber-attacks while maintaining public and stakeholder trust and confidence.
  • Communicate why this matters for operational effectiveness and public safety.
  • Strategic Objectives
  • Engage with stakeholders on  the six core objectives of the strategy:
    • Manage cyber security risk.
    • Protect against cyber-attacks.
    • Detect and respond to incidents.
    • Minimise impact of breaches.
    • Build skills and culture.
  • Align cyber security with policing outcomes.
  • Use plain language and real-world examples to show relevance to frontline policing.
  • Changing the viewpoint that cyber is a block but rather an enabler of services.

  • As it’s a part time secondment you will maintain your role in force and this is a fantastic opportunity to develop skills and experience.

What you need to succeed in the role

  • Current communications officers within UK police forces who have valid vetting for working in policing.
  • Experience in media relations, internal communications, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver under pressure.
  • You don’t need to be expert in technology – your role will be to help our non-technical stakeholders understand and support the National Digital Strategy.

Working Arrangements

Secondment for two full days per week (14.5 hours) for an initial 8 week period based from your current office with occasional travel.

All applicants must be eligible to undergo NPPV3 (Non Police Personnel Vetting Level 3) and SC vetting clearances. Successful applicants will require NPPV3 clearance to have been cleared before starting with PDS.  If you currently hold NPPV3 and or SC, it can be transferred across for this role.
