Job Purpose:
To provide a visible and professional security service across various Force locations, delivering initial visitor contact and out‑of‑hours reception services. The post holder will ensure that unauthorised individuals do not gain access to sites while maintaining a helpful, calm, and welcoming service to all authorised staff and visitors.
Please note: Staff currently in the internal re‑deployment pool will be considered in the first instance. This role may be withdrawn without notice.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential Skills and Requirements
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating a professional customer‑service approach and the ability to remain calm, firm, and effective under pressure.
- Physically fit to undertake Personal Safety Programme (PSP) training, fire procedure duties, and regular patrols.
- Detailed knowledge of organisational and departmental policies and procedures relevant to the role.
Technical Knowledge
- CCTV Systems
- Understanding of system procedures, Data Protection requirements, and appropriate responses to alarms.
- Ability to record and distribute information in line with legislation and Force policy.
- Alarm Systems
- Knowledge of fire alarms, internal and external intruder alarms, and “bomb” alerts.
- Ability to respond appropriately, investigate activations, liaise with emergency services, and reset systems without supervisory support.
- Fuel Procedures
- Understanding of recording processes and Health & Safety requirements relating to fuel delivery and issue.
- Visitor Procedures
- Ability to support distressed or vulnerable callers, manage lost/found property, and assist out‑of‑hours visitors.
- Required to support asylum seekers between 19:00–08:00, using initiative and strong interpersonal skills.
- Health & Safety
- First Aid training will be provided. Security Officers must be able to assess situations and determine when emergency medical assistance is required.
- IT and Reporting
- Ability to use Force email systems and the Estates & Facilities Helpdesk to report faults and repairs.
- Force and Departmental Procedures
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, security measures, suspicious‑package indicators, and screening/scanning equipment.
- Ability to manage lost and found property in line with Force procedures.
Qualifications
- Must hold, or be working towards, NVQ Level 2 in Providing Security Services.
Eligibility Requirements
