For roles based in London, your contractual place of work will be Stratford. While the Stratford site is expected to become operational from November 2025 – March 2026, you will be required to carry out your contractual duties from Vauxhall or another reasonable location on a temporary basis during the interim period.

Please note that, as Stratford will be your contractual place of work, any subsequent move from a temporary location will not entitle you to payments for travel time or costs under the Relocation and Excess Travel Policy.

The Investigations Command provides a flexible, shared operational capability, designed to maximise the impact of the UK’s collective resources against serious and organised crime. Our teams respond to a broad range of threats, many of which also remain a responsibility for police forces and other agencies as well as private industry.

Information about the Business Area

This DD area incorporates our response to organised immigration crime (OIC), the Command’s London-based multi-threat and borders teams, and the Special Operations Unit (SOU).

The Firearms Chronicle Coordinator is a key role within the Special Operations Unit Head Quarters Department supporting the NCAs niche covert armed capability responding to NCA and on occasions NPCC high risk serious and organised crime threats. You will be responsible for ensuring that the Armed operations Unit remain deployable and compliant with the College of Policing Authorised Professional Practice for Armed Policing.

To support the Special Operations Unit with the management of the Firearms modules within the Chronicle system. Support and manage the implementation of new Chronicle modules, interfaces and upgrades. Manage all modules for the respective business areas, ensuring national minimum standards are achieved whilst also meeting individual business area requirements and providing an efficient, effective and robust service to all stakeholders. Directly manage and mentor a small team of specialist firearms Chronicle enabled staff. Support, mentor and develop staff within their role. Support the Chief Firearms Instructor as the Chronicle subject matter expert (SME) during College of Policing Inspections or any other assurance or post incident procedure.

Management of staff Management of Chronicle staff across a range of business areas, ensuring data standards and data integrity in line with Agency Policies and Operating Procedures.
Creation of data standards Creation and maintenance of Agency specific Chronicle data standards in line with National guidance and College of Policing requirements.
Training Responsibility for instruction and training across Chronicle modules within relevant business areas.
Maintenance of Chronicle modules Responsible and accountable for the maintenance of existing firearms Chronicle modules or upgrades. Liaise with the supplier (Polaris) to ensure that the module is set up in line with national requirements.
Development of Chronicle modules Responsible and accountable for the development of all Chronicle modules to ensure they evolve alongside changing policing requirements across all business areas.
Management of Chronicle Responsible and accountable for the management of the “Core” of the NCA Chronicle system. Providing a robust, auditable and standardised approach, whilst securing the integrity of the system. Ensuring National and Agency minimum standards are achieved and maintained.
Providing Chronicle advice and guidance Stand as the SME, providing Chronicle advice and guidance across all business areas and at all levels
Management of user permissions Responsible and accountable for the issuing and management of all user access permissions of the Chronicle system, thereby ensuring robust data security.
Development, Maintenance and management of all Chronicle related interfaces Responsible and accountable for the development, maintenance and management of all Chronicle related interfaces. Provide support to business areas with regards to their implementation and use.
Consultations Responsible and accountable for the consultation process, creation, reviewing and management of all Chronicle Policy, Guidance and Procedure documents across all areas of business.
Operations Recording Requirements Responsible and accountable for implementing, reviewing and the management of all modules “Operations recording requirements”, in line with the NCA Strategic Threat and Risk Assessment (STRA) data requirements.
Representation at Inspections Represent the NCA during College of Policing (CoP) Firearms Training and Taser Training Licence inspections. Be interviewed with regards to the recording of training and the management of accreditation, using the NCA Chronicle system. Represent the NCA during HMICFRS inspections in relation to Firearms records. Be interviewed with regards to the recording of operational data using the NCA Chronicle system.
Attendance at workshops and conferences Responsible and accountable for attending National JML Chronicle Development workshops decision and conferences as the representative of the NCA. Ensure effective consultation and communication with the relevant NCA business areas.
Developing relationships Develop strong working relationships and work collaboratively with NCA Learning & Development (L&D) Training Managers, Operational Firearms Managers, Chief Firearms Instructor, Strategic Firearms lead, Special Operations Unit (SOU) Senior leadership team and National Stakeholders.
Training, supporting and mentoring staff Train, mentor, support and monitor individual NCA Chronicle staff thereby ensuring a standardised operation of the system, in line with the requirements of the NCA Chronicle policies and procedures. This will include prioritising their workload, when necessary, in order to meet strategic requirements.
Data Extraction Responsible and accountable for the extraction of NCA Operations data to feed and support the NCA Strategic Threat and Risk Assessments (STRAs), across all business areas.

Knowledge of Chronicle Firearms Modules Effective working knowledge of all firearms modules within Chronicle.
Experience of Firearms Licensing Requirements/Inspections. Experience of working with the College of Policing with regards firearms licensing requirements and inspections.
Management experience Experience of managing and developing staff.

Essential Criteria

Salary

Allowances are reviewed annually and may be increased, decreased or removed.
All salary offers will be made in line with Remuneration Policy.
  • Roles based in London will receive an additional London Weighting (Per Annum) of £4218
  • Roles based in the South-East will receive an additional South-East Allowance (Per Annum) of £3375

New entrants to the NCA receive 26 days annual leave, rising to 31 on completion of 5 years continuous service, plus 8 bank holidays.

If qualifying criteria is met new joiners from UK Police Forces or the UK Intelligence Community (UKIC) will have service with those employers taken into account for continuous service purposes for annual leave entitlement only, this will be up to a maximum of 31 days leave (including 1 privilege day).

Assessment Outcome
Outcomes will be communicated via the NCA recruitment portal.

Security and Vetting

People working with government assets must complete baseline personnel security standard checks.
Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is SC Enhanced. All security clearances will be managed by the NCA.

Prior to commencing the role, you will need to successfully complete SC Enhanced clearance.
The requirement for SC clearance is to have been present in the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.

Occupational Health

Successful candidates will be expected to undertake an occupational health assessment. Depending on the role an in-person medical may be required in either London or Warrington. Unfortunately, travel costs will not be reimbursed.
