We are currently recruiting for an Evidence Officer to work on a full-time, long-term contract with a UK Police Force based in Basingstoke, Hampshire.
This is a full-time, long-term contract, and due to the nature of the workload, successful applicants will be expected to work on-site.
The role is paying £15.72 per hour (PAYE)
As this is a role within Policing, successful applicants will need to pass through National Security Vetting checks before being offered the position.
Job purpose:
To deliver an efficient Evidence Management Service to colleagues and the public; proactively managing evidential exhibits in line with Force Policy and Procedures and reuniting owners with their property at the earliest opportunity
Main Responsibilities:
1. Ensure the safekeeping and appropriate handling of all evidential exhibits (which will include seized monies, firearms, drugs, contaminated items and biometric samples) in compliance with legislation and Force Policy and Procedures.
2. Receive and quality check all items deposited in the Temporary Evidence Stores (TES), assessing items individually to decide their correct storage.
3. Maintain the required security protocols for the environment and stored items at all times.
4. Receive and resolve enquiries from the Public in person, by telephone and email.
5. Facilitate the provision of exhibits to officers / staff when requested.
6. Collect and transport exhibits between locations or to a disposal facility in a police vehicle as required.
7. Collate and Prepare consignments of exhibits for forensic submissions.
8. Receive and process consignments of returned items.
9. Accurately input data on the Record Management System (RMS) and maintain continuity for all movements and actions.
10. Interrogate RMS to identify items authorised for disposal or return to owners, notifying owners when property may be collected.
11. Regularly review items in storage, making enquiries to the responsible Officer as to the need for retention.
12. Produce reports and facilitate appropriate disposal of all exhibits and other property in accordance with Force Policy and Procedures, collaborating with other departments and external agencies where required.
13. Provide procedural advice and to officers and staff concerning evidence management procedures
Essential Skills & Experience:
Essential
Previous experience of working in a busy office environment including a range of administrative procedures with proven organisational skills.
Ability to use own initiative and prioritise work.
Computer literate, experienced in use of Microsoft Office.
Good literacy and communication skills.
Desirable:
Previous experience in Customer Service
Knowledge of police organisation and structure.
