Save the date: Police Oracle Detective Academy kicks off on the 11th of February

Launching in February the academy will be comprised of 18, forty-minute webinars to be delivered twice on each scheduled day.

The Police Oracle Detective Academy is a membership benefit for all subscribers however it is designed specifically for trainee and serving detectives.  The purpose of the academy is to provide bite sized live training and question and answer events to help detectives put theory into practice.

Launching in February the academy will be initially comprised of 18, forty-minute webinars.

All webinars will be delivered twice on each scheduled day to provide as much opportunity as possible for busy detectives to access the sessions.

At 40 minutes per session our hope is many officers will be able to incorporate the sessions into their busy working days.

The sessions will comprise of 30 minutes of content delivery and 10 minutes of Q&A.   The sessions will be delivered by seasoned professionals, all of whom attained SIO status and will be available to answer questions.

The academy will be provided in three phases.  Each phase containing six sessions which will be run on a Tuesday.  First session at 10am with the second at 4pm.

We understand that the role of the detective has greatly changed over the last few years and our aim is to support and educate in making them the best investigator for the force and for victims of crime.

Phase one sessions are

11th of February

Webinar One: General Investigative Practice

During this session we will focus on initial scene management from the perspective of an investigator. We will look at:

  • The Golden Hour
  • Initial Investigation
  • Preserving Crime Scene
  • Investigation Strategy

18th of February

Webinar Two: Investigation Strategies

We will look at improving skills around various lines of investigation including:

  • House to House
  • CCTV strategy
  • Intelligence
  • Digital Media Investigation

25th of February

Webinar Three: Forensic Investigation

Here we will look at the importance of forensic investigation and the importance of forensic strategy.

  • Fingerprints
  • Footwear
  • DNA
  • Samples

4th of March

Webinar Four: Dealing with Victims / Witnesses

Your victim and/or witness will always be key to your investigation holding information that will be invaluable in identifying the offender and bringing them to justice. In this webinar we look at:

  • Initial Actions
  • Achieving Best Evidence
  • Planning witness interviews
  • Understanding special measures

11th of March

Webinar Five: Planning for Suspects

The arrest stage needs to be prepared for as diligently as all other parts of the investigation. During this session we will look at:

  • Planning and conducting arrests
  • Significant Statements / Silence
  • Searches
  • Detention

18th of March

Webinar Six: Understanding Prevention Orders and Injunctions

In this webinar we look at some of the orders and injunctions available to investigators including how to apply for them.

  • Domestic Violence Orders
  • Stalking Prevention order
  • Criminal Behaviour Orders
  • Sexual Harm Prevention Orders

Phase Two

Our second phase of our 30 minute webinars for The Detective Academy will offer 6 completely new webinars. We will look at:

  • Missing Person Investigations
  • Dealing with Acquisitive Crime
  • Custody Issues and Extending Detention Times
  • Threat to Life Investigations
  • Investigating Sudden Deaths
