On 23 April 1923 the first FA Cup Final held at the new Wembley Stadium became known as the ‘White Horse Final’ after a Metropolitan Police mounted officer riding grey gelding Billy, helped clear the pitch after a vast crowd of 300,000 surged into the stadium which had a capacity of only 125,000.
