Are you looking for a new opportunity within the SCIU? The Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is part of the Roads Policing Joint Operations (JOU) covering Thames Valley Police, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary.

The successful applicant will supervise and direct investigations to ensure they are compliant with the college of policing and APP guidance on road death investigation.

Provide serious case reviews for fatal investigations across the JOU and provide oversight and training/accreditation for RPLI and FLO/FLA and deaths in service.

Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

To supervise, as an accredited Roads Policing Lead Investigator, investigations of category A, B and C fatal collisions that occur across the JOU as defined by the College of Policing APP guidance on road death investigation.

Supervise and where necessary conduct interviews with witnesses and suspects within relevant PIP standards and oversee the collection and gathering of evidence ensuring processes are in place to record and retain material from a wide range of sources.

Promote the continuous professional development of team members so that all staff attain their full potential and be responsible for any welfare requirements.

Supervise and direct serious injury and other complex and high profile collision investigations including those subject to IOPC and PSD referrals. Such incidents may occur within the JOU or another Force area.

To liaise with the Family Liaison Advisors across crime and RPU to publish on-call rotas.

Essential Qualifications

  • Educated to QCF Level 6 OR work experience deemed to have brought the post holder to a comparable level.

Essential Experience

To be computer literate.

  • A good working knowledge of building case files.
  • A good working knowledge of the rules of Disclosure.
  • Considerable experience of supervising the investigation of complex / serious crime.
