Intelligence Analyst BTAC Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) Secondment  Fixed Term Contract - 2 Years Secondment  Enhanced vetting required - MV/SC/DV Tenure of post - 2 years FTC/secondment Introduction Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) is a five-force collaboration delivering Counter Terrorism (CT) services to our regional forces as well as forming part of the national CT Network. CTPNW’s mission is to work together to keep people safe from terrorism.  We are looking for a committed and outstanding individual who can support CTPNW in achieving its mission.

Job Purpose: 

The Intelligence Analyst provides expertise through the development and use of analytical products to assist decision making at a strategic, tactical and operational level.

Knowledge and Experience: 

 Analytical Expertise

  • Experience conducting analysis using appropriate tools and techniques to identify patterns, trends, threats, risks and harm within complex datasets.
  • Ability to develop, test and refine inferences and hypotheses, drawing evidence‑based conclusions and making clear recommendations.
  • Proven capability to scope, define and structure analytical problems to deliver impactful intelligence products.

Data Handling and Interpretation

  • Strong skills in researching, evaluating and assimilating large volumes of complex information from multiple sources.
  • Experience producing concise, accurate and insightful analytical reports, briefings and presentations for a range of stakeholders.
  • Competence in using IT systems, databases and analytical software to interpret, store and present data effectively.

Professional Standards and Legal Awareness

  • Understanding of legal frameworks, policies and principles relevant to intelligence work, including the handling of highly sensitive national security material.
  • Experience preparing analytical evidence for court proceedings, including liaison with legal professionals and presenting evidence as a witness when required.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partners and external stakeholders to support information sharing and collaborative analysis.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and provide well‑reasoned recommendations to support decision‑making.
  • Experience working closely with Intelligence Researchers or similar roles to ensure analytical requirements are met.

 Professional Development and Innovation

  • Commitment to maintaining awareness of emerging intelligence techniques, tools and best practice.
  • Ability to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness within own area of work.
  • Willingness to represent the team or organisation when required, with appropriate support.

  • Strong team‑working skills, including the ability to provide peer support and coaching.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage workload effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Motivation to develop personal knowledge and understanding of the intelligence discipline.

UK Nationality Requirements

This role is restricted to UK Nationals. Dual nationals may be considered where one nationality is British. Due to the sensitivity of the work, all applicants must be able to obtain the appropriate national security vetting. In some cases, conflicts of interest or international connections may delay or prevent clearance. Additional security checks will be carried out, and travel to certain countries may be restricted.

Vetting

This post requires access to highly sensitive intelligence material. Applicants must hold, or be willing to undergo, National Security Vetting at Security Check (enhanced) level before appointment, with the potential requirement for Developed Vetting once in post. Applicants should normally have lived in the UK for the past 5–10 years. Further information on vetting can be found on the UK Government website.

 

Additional Information

  • The role may involve occasional travel across the North West, particularly during arrest or premises search operations.
  • If you are successful in applying for a police staff post and are a member of police staff at a police force currently that is different to Merseyside Police, you will be required to resign from your current force and take up a contract of employment with Merseyside Police. You will then be seconded from Merseyside Police to CTPNW c/o GMP.
