Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for an Anti-Social Behaviour Support Officer for a District Council based in Sussex. You will work in partnership, on behalf of the Council, to effectively tackle antisocial behaviour, crime and disorder including; prevention, casework, enforcement and support for victims in line with the Partnership Anti-social Behaviour Policy.
Location: Haywards Heath (hybrid)
Contract: 3 months (may be extended)
Salary: £18.35 PAYE / £25.02 UMB per hour
Vetting: Must be eligible for an Enhanced DBS (or have one already).
Main Responsibilities
- To act as a first point of call for receiving and handling complaints related to anti-social behaviour and triaging these as appropriate.
- To handle and resolve lower risk complaints relating to anti-social behaviour. This can be by email, over the phone or in person.
- To work with the Senior Anti-Social Behaviour Officer to ensure that ASB paperwork is up to date, including the ASB tracker and case files. To contribute to monthly reports in respect of ASB case work for the management team and portfolio holder.
- To work in partnership to tackle anti-social behaviour by developing effective working relationships with key stakeholders, such as the Police, Town and Parish Councils, Fire Service, West Sussex Mediation, Housing Associations and Victim Support.
- To work with partner agencies and the full range of council services to ensure the District Council and other partner agencies meet their duty under section 17 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
- To keep abreast of, and respond to, developments in relation to tackling anti-social behaviour and community safety matters.
- To work with the Senior Anti-Social Behaviour Officer in making use of current available tools and interventions to tackle anti-social behaviour such as Acceptable Behaviour Contacts (ABC’s), Community Protection Warnings and Fixed Penalty Notices.
- Ensure the Council meets its duty to safeguard children and vulnerable adults by adhering to the Council’s Safeguarding Policy
- To assist with training events for staff, councillors and officers from partner agencies on key aspects of dealing with anti-social behaviour.
- To promote the activities of the Partnership and its successes in tackling and preventing anti-social behaviour.
- To deputise for the Senior Anti-Social Behaviour Officer at meetings when required.
- Represent District Council’s Community Safety team as required and conduct any other reasonable administrative and project management duties as necessary for the effective operation of the team.
Person Specification
Essential
- Must hold a current valid driving licence
- Good level of general education
- High level of literacy and numeracy
- Experience of working within a local authority or similar environment
- Experience of working on anti-social behaviour or similar issues.
- Experience of working in an inter-agency partnership environment
- Experience of handling sensitive information
- Effective interpersonal skills including ability to influence others and facilitate change
- Ability to work with challenging people
- Ability to deal with people experiencing heightened emotions and to manage conflict and stressful situations
- Good planning and organisational skills
- Good report writing skills
- Ability to analyse statistical data
- I.T literate with practical skills in Word, PowerPoint and Excel and use of the internet as a research tool
- Knowledge of the key principles and policies and trends in antisocial behaviour and community safety.
- Understanding of causes of anti-social behaviour
- Proactive self-starter determined to see initiatives through
