  • Risk-Based Regulatory Decision Making

This half-day course is designed for regulators who need to make fair, consistent, and defensible decisions in complex and resource-limited environments. It focuses on how to assess and prioritise risk using structured approaches, proportionate judgment, and available intelligence and data.

Participants will explore what “risk” really means in a regulatory context, how to balance harm, likelihood, and vulnerability, and how to justify decisions in a way that stands up to internal scrutiny and public challenge. The session is practical and discussion-led, using realistic regulatory scenarios rather than enforcement case studies.

    • 3 CPD Points
    • Certificate of Attendance issued

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

Understand and apply common risk assessment tools used in regulatory settings

Identify and prioritise regulatory activity based on risk, impact, and available resources

Use intelligence, data, and professional judgment to support proportionate decision making

Recognise and manage bias and inconsistency in risk-based decisions

Clearly record and explain the rationale for regulatory decisions
