    Trainer overview

Paul brings a wealth of experience from three decades in law enforcement, having served with the West Yorkshire Police, where they achieved the rank of Detective Sergeant.

Since then, Paul has worked for the National Crime Agency (NCA) and for Trading Standards.

    Why join this course

Suspect interviews are a key point in any investigation.

This course builds your skills in planning, conducting and evaluating interviews so you can secure reliable accounts and strengthen your case.

    Why this topic is important

Interviews must be structured, fair and legally sound.

Poor interviews risk lost admissions, unreliable evidence and legal challenge. Good practice protects both the investigation and the interviewer.

    How it helps investigations

You’ll learn how to use the PEACE model effectively, manage legal requirements and apply questioning techniques that explore, test and clarify accounts.

You’ll also learn how to evaluate outcomes and adjust your investigative strategy.

    Target audience

Police investigators, regulatory officers, local authority teams, trainee detectives, supervisors and anyone involved in planning or conducting suspect interviews.

    Learning outcomes

Plan, structure and conduct suspect interviews using PEACE.

Apply legal considerations: caution, breaks, legal advice, disclosure timing.

Use questioning, challenges and handling of inconsistencies.

Evaluate outcomes and feed back into case strategy.
