    Why join this course

Strong investigative practice begins with solid fundamentals.

This course strengthens your ability to plan, record and manage an enquiry professionally from first report to file submission.

    Why this topic is important

Poor planning, weak rationale recording and gaps in continuity are common causes of case failure. Knowing how to structure and document an investigation properly protects both the case and the investigator.

    How it helps investigations

You’ll work through the full investigative process — strategy, evidence handling, decision-making and file preparation. The aim is to give you habits and methods that improve accuracy, efficiency and evidential integrity.

    Target audience

Investigators, police officers, regulatory staff, case builders, trainee detectives and supervisors who want a consistent investigative approach across their team.

    Learning outcomes

Set an investigative strategy and identify viable lines of enquiry.

Record decisions, rationales and actions to an evidential standard.

Handle exhibits and continuity from scene to file.

Work effectively with intel, digital and legal advisers.
