Chief Officer | Institute of Directors Training |
If you sit within the National Police Chiefs’ Council community, you’re already operating in the most demanding strategic and governance environment in the country. Many NPCC leaders go on to extend that influence beyond policing — bringing their judgement, scrutiny and public-service ethos into boardrooms as Non-Executive Directors (NEDs).
Police Oracle is delighted to offer NPCC-level officers free access to the Institute of Directors CPD course:
“Practical Tips for Becoming a NED.”
The course is a focused, interactive workshop that shows senior leaders how to step into — and thrive in — a NED role. It explains what NEDs do, how they differ from executive directors, and how they add value to boards through independent oversight and constructive challenge.
You’ll explore the skills, behaviours and competencies of effective NEDs, including the balance of analytical judgement and emotional intelligence needed to influence board decisions and strengthen governance. The course also shares real techniques for improving board effectiveness in and out of the boardroom — and gives clear, practical guidance on where and how to find and secure NED appointments.
Delivered by experienced Non-Executive Directors, this two-hour CPD session is designed to help you translate your leadership experience into board impact, grow your confidence, and expand your network with other senior peers.
The course is available to serving officers who hold a chief officer rank and is free to full police oracle subscribers. Click on the event you’d like to attend above to register.
