Summary of the Role
As an experienced Crime Analyst you have a vital role in supporting international law enforcement operations, delivering high-quality tactical and strategic intelligence analysis to inform decision-making, assess threats, and mitigating risk and harm. You will support complex investigations through the provision of actionable intelligence products and insights.
This role operates on a 70/30 split: 70% is dedicated to direct operational investigative delivery, and 30% to capability building, providing mentoring, coaching, and professional development support to local investigators and agency staff.
This dual-function model is central to RSMS’s mission to build sustainable, locally-led investigative capacity alongside immediate operational impact.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver tactical and strategic intelligence analysis to support sensitive and complex investigations.
- Develop and maintain an effective analytical capability at operational, strategic, tactical, and evidential levels.
- Analyse a wide range of data, including intelligence, evidence, and open-source material, to produce actionable insights.
- Collate, interpret, and present analytical findings in appropriate formats, including visual and written reports.
- Provide recommendations and intelligence products to assist operational planning and decision-making.
- Produce strategic-level products to support senior management and operational leads.
- Attend briefings and meetings, delivering presentations and engaging with stakeholders across agencies.
- Support the development of analytical strategies and contribute to investigative planning.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, including data protection and communications data regulations.
- Utilise advanced IT tools and software, including Excel, Analyst Notebook, and iBase.
- Work with communications data and internet intelligence in line with legal frameworks.
- Adapt to new technologies and systems as required by evolving operational needs.
Capability Building and Mentoring (30% of Role)
- Support the development of sustainable analytical capability within the local force by mentoring and coaching relevant staff (where possible/practicable) in analytical techniques, tools and standards.
- Provide structured on the job guidance to embed best practice in intelligence development, data analysis, product creation and dissemination.
- Assist in the design and delivery of training inputs, workshops and briefings tailored to the operational context and capability needs of the host agency.
- Identify gaps in analytical capability, processes and systems, providing feedback to the RSMS lead and contributing to capability assessments and improvement plans.
- Promote the adoption of intelligence led policing principles, ensuring analytical outputs are effectively integrated into investigative and operational decision making.
- Support the development of analytical processes, governance and standards to ensure consistency, quality and sustainability beyond the deployment.
Experience / Skills / Qualifications Required
- Minimum of 2 years’ analytical experience within policing, government, or a similar environment.
- Proven experience in analytical planning, strategy development, and intelligence product delivery.
- Strong understanding of the National Intelligence Model and associated analytical products.
- Completion of relevant professional training, including:
- National Intelligence Analysis Training
- IBM i2 Analyst Notebook/iBase course
- Core Skills in Communications Data course
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality analytical reports and strategic assessments.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in negotiation and presenting.
- Advanced IT proficiency, particularly in Excel and analytical software.
- Extensive knowledge of communications data, social media, and internet intelligence.
- Strong understanding of data protection legislation and ethical handling of sensitive information.
- Willingness and ability to learn and apply new systems and technologies.
