Plus Annual Hours Allowance (AHA) of a minimum of 30% (at least £9,633 per annum based on minimum salary) and a Recruitment and Retention allowance of £3,000 pa for PIP 2 qualified Criminal Investigators

Within Immigration Enforcement, our Criminal and Financial Investigation (CFI) teams work to dismantle the organised crime groups behind immigration abuse. Combining criminal and financial investigation expertise, we identify how these networks operate, remove the proceeds of crime, and strip criminals of their assets.

We work closely with partners including the National Crime Agency (NCA), territorial policing and other government departments, taking coordinated, decisive action against those who profit from illegal migration.

About the role As a PIP 2 Accredited Criminal Investigator, you will take ownership of serious and complex criminal investigations into organised immigration crime and associated offending. This is a demanding, high-impact role where you will operate with autonomy, professional judgement and accountability.

You will manage investigations from intelligence development through to prosecution, leading on evidential strategy, decision-making and investigative activity. Your role will include planning and conducting suspect and witness interviews under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE), overseeing evidence gathering, preparing complex case files, and presenting evidence at court.

Alongside criminal investigations, you will work closely with financial investigators to pursue asset recovery under the Proceeds of Crime Act. Collaboration is central to the role, and you will regularly work with law enforcement and government partners on joint operations including the National Crime Agency (NCA) and territorial policing.

This role requires a high level of professionalism, resilience and adaptability. The work can be physically demanding and requires a good level of mobility and fitness.

About you You’ll be an experienced criminal investigator with current PIP Level 2 accreditation, confident managing complex investigations with minimal supervision once trained.

You demonstrate sound judgement, strong analytical skills and the ability to make balanced, evidence-based decisions in pressured environments. You take personal responsibility for your work and operate with integrity, professionalism and attention to detail.

You communicate clearly and confidently, both in writing and verbally, and are comfortable presenting evidence and engaging with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Due to the nature of the work and the geographical areas, some travel by official vehicle will be inevitable and applicants must hold a valid full UK (manual or automatic) driving licence. Training and development Training will initially take place in the classroom, and continues on the job with a mentor, until you feel fully confident in your duties. You’ll have access to advice every day should you need it, along with the support of your colleagues.
