The North West Regional Organised Crime Unit (NWROCU) is pleased to offer an opportunity to join the Regional Economic Crime Team within the Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) Intelligence Development function as an Economic Intelligence Development Officer.

This role is pivotal in identifying, developing, and exploiting financial intelligence—particularly Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs)—to support intelligence-led policing and disrupt serious and organised crime across the North West region. The successful candidate will proactively identify intelligence gaps relating to Threat, Harm and Risk, develop actionable intelligence, and produce high-quality intelligence products to inform operational decision-making and support enforcement activity.

Applicants must demonstrate a willingness to undertake and maintain Financial Intelligence Officer (FIO) accreditation through the National Crime Agency. The role also requires a strong commitment to continuous professional development, including completion of relevant training and accreditation programmes, alongside the ability to obtain the required security vetting.

Candidates for this challenging role must be highly motivated, disciplined, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. The ability to remain calm under pressure and manage competing demands within a dynamic operational environment is essential.

The NWROCU leads the policing response across the region posed by serious and organised crime in Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and North Wales. The NWROCU provides the vital link from national capabilities and expertise to local policing and knowledge, enabling the North West region to deliver the Government’s serious and organised Crime strategy and to protect communities from harm.

The post is subject to an initial secondment of two years reviewable based on continuous funding and performance.

Further developments in NWROCU’s capabilities are anticipated in the future. Applications received for Operational roles that require mandatory Officer Safety/First Aid training must hold valid in date training or able to undertake upon application.

The Grade of this role has been determined using the Merseyside HAY procedure and has been afforded a Merseyside Grade _. This equates to a salary range of £30,333 – £32,613. Successful applicants from other Regional Forces will be paid a salary within this pay range. These are full time roles working ‘flexitime’ however, applicants must be aware that there is a requirement for the post holders to be flexible in relation to working hours.

Full details of the role requirements are provided in the JDQ.

Successful applicants working within NWROCU will be subject to NCA Clearance, MV (Management Vetting) and SC (Security Clearance) prior to taking up post.

NWROCU is committed to ensuring that we have a work force that represents the communities we serve, and we are keen to attract applications from underrepresented groups.

Before starting an application, applicants must download the NWROCU secondment support form, ensure it is completed in full and then upload to your application.

Applications from GMP will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants will be prompted, and applications will not proceed until this has been completed.
