Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of a leading non-departmental public body for 8 Environmental Crime Officers to join a specialist operational team dedicated to tackling environmental crime across the North West.

This is an exciting opportunity for experienced investigators or enforcement professionals to help protect communities and the environment by investigating serious waste crime, disrupting organised criminal activity and bringing offenders to justice. Working alongside specialist colleagues and partner agencies, you’ll play a key role in intelligence-led operations that make a real difference.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Investigate waste crime and other environmental offences using an intelligence-led approach.
  • Apply the 4P methodology (Prepare, Prevent, Protect and Pursue) to identify opportunities to disrupt environmental criminality.
  • Gather, assess and develop intelligence to support investigations and operational activity.
  • Collect evidence, obtain witness statements and prepare comprehensive prosecution case files.
  • Work closely with police, local authorities and other enforcement partners on joint investigations.
  • Support enforcement action ranging from bringing illegal waste operators into compliance through to disrupting organised crime groups.
  • Build productive relationships with internal specialists and external agencies to deliver successful enforcement outcomes.
  • Communicate professionally with a wide range of stakeholders, including individuals who may be confrontational or resistant.
  • Maintain accurate investigation records and ensure all evidence is gathered and managed in accordance with legislation and policy.
  • Travel throughout the North West to undertake operational activity, attend meetings and support investigations.

Person Specification

We are looking for candidates with experience in an enforcement, investigation or regulatory role who can demonstrate:

Essential

  • Experience conducting investigations or enforcement activity.
  • Experience gathering and evaluating intelligence or evidence.
  • Excellent report writing and case preparation skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with partner organisations.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across the North West.

Desirable

  • Environmental enforcement or waste crime experience.
  • Police, Trading Standards, Local Authority or other regulatory investigation background.
  • Knowledge of criminal investigation processes and evidential standards.
  • Experience preparing prosecution files or supporting court proceedings.
  • Knowledge of legislation including the Environmental Protection Act, Environmental Permitting Regulations, PACE, CPIA and RIPA.

Specialist Requirements

  • NPPV Level 1-3 Police Vetting (or willingness to obtain).
  • Regular travel throughout the North West is required.
  • Occasional overnight stays may be necessary.
  • Regular attendance at the Warrington office for operational briefings, debriefs and team meetings.
  • This role is inside IR35.
