  • Exhibit Handling

Part of the Police Oracle Training Academy – in partnership with Red Snapper Learning.

Exhibit handling refers to the proper management of physical or digital evidence collected during an investigation to ensure it remains reliable and admissible.

    • Collection
Gather items carefully using appropriate methods to avoid damage or contamination.
    • Identification and labeling
Clearly mark each exhibit with details such as date, time, location, and collector’s name.
    • Preservation
Use suitable packaging and storage conditions to maintain the exhibit’s original state.
    • Chain of custody
Keep a documented record of every person who handles the exhibit, from collection to presentation.
    • Secure storage
Store exhibits in controlled, secure environments to prevent loss, tampering, or unauthorized access.
    • Transportation
Move exhibits safely and in a way that maintains their integrity.
    • Documentation
Record all actions taken with the exhibit to ensure transparency and accountability.

In short, exhibit handling ensures evidence is protected, traceable, and legally reliable throughout an investigation.
