The North-East Trading Standards Association is a partnership of the 12 Local Authority Trading Standards Services within the North-East of England. As part of its role, it oversees a Regional Intelligence Function aimed at co-ordinating criminal intelligence work across the region. The Regional Intelligence Analyst sits within, and directs the work of, the intelligence function; a small team which also includes a dedicated Regional Intelligence Officer. The Team implements and supports the National Trading Standards Intelligence Operating Model locally, regionally and nationally. Based in Middlesbrough, the Intelligence function sits alongside, and works closely with, the North-East Regional Investigations Team.
The role involves engagement with agencies such as the Police, HMRC, Border Force, the Food Standards Agency and Local Authority Trading Standards Services across all regions of Great Britain. Overseen by both the regional and national taking groups, the role involves the creation of intelligence products at both tactical and strategic levels.
The Team is funded through National Trading Standards, on behalf of the Department for Business and Trade, but you will be employed at a local level by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council. Further, although the post is classed as permanent, it is based on the successful allocation of funding to National Trading Standards on an annual basis.
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic self-starter, with proven research and analytical skills to act as the focal point, champion, and lead of the intelligence function in the North-East. A good knowledge of Microsoft packages (particularly Excel) is required to assist with the manipulation and analysis of data sets, whilst an understanding of Trading Standards legislation / processes would be an advantage but is not essential.
Applicants will of course require excellent problem solving, communication and partnership skills to enable the development and maintenance of relationships with organisations and individuals vital to the delivery of Trading Standards based intelligence and enforcement activity across the North-East.
As part of the role, it is expected that the incumbent will attend meetings and events throughout the North-East and great Britain as necessary for the development and promotion of the Regional Intelligence function and the National Intelligence Operating Model.
