Dubai is the home of the world’s tallest building, the world’s first flying taxis and now self-driving miniature police cars (the world’s first) are expected to hit the streets by the end of the year.
The robotic vehicles will be equipped with biometric software that can scan for wanted criminals and those who are suspected or are breaking laws.
About the size of a child’s electric toy car, the driverless vehicles will patrol different areas of the city to boost security and hunt for unusual activity, all while scanning crowds for potential persons of interest to police and known criminals.
The new security system is so advanced the Smart car looking vehicle even comes with its own drone which can be launched out the back — both are monitored and linked to Dubai Police command room.
“Dubai Police are keen to get the latest technology to fight crime. We always search for the best technology to serve our police work for a safer and smarter city. We seek to augment operations with the help of technology such as robots. We aim for streets to be safe and peaceful even without heavy police patrol,” Major General Al Merri of Dubai Police said.
“We always look to achieve Dubai’s vision of becoming a Smart City. We expect it will be ready during the next Gitex fair,” he said.
