Optimism is clearly not in short supply at Cheshire Police judging by this CCTV image released in the hope of identifying a suspect.

The grainy picture shows a figure dressed almost exclusively in black, save the white soles of the shoes, with appears to be a white mask completely obscuring his face.

The force said at 10.20pm on Wednesday January 4 two men entered the One Stop Shop on North Cinnamon Lane, Cinnamon Brow, Warrington, and threatened members of staff with what is thought to have been a handgun, demanding they open the till.

Shop staff obliged and the mean fled via the main entrance.

One of the men is described as “approximately 5ft 5 inches, wearing dark clothing and had his face covered, possibly with a black balaclava.”

While the other man is said to be “approximately 5ft 3 inches with a reddish, possibly spotty complexion.

“He was wearing a black tracksuit, black gloves and dark trainers with a white trim. The man was also wearing a skeleton mask and carrying a distinctive black Nike rucksack, with a large white tick.”

One of the men was believed to be carrying a handgun in his left hand although the force said it has been unable to confirm if the gun was real or imitation.

DC Ian Bingley said: “We take all incidents of this nature seriously and are doing all we can to trace the offender. It has not been established whether the gun was real or imitation.

“The weapon was not discharged and no injuries were reported but staff, who were in the shop at the time, were understandably left very shaken by their ordeal.

“We’re currently following a number of enquiries in relation to the incident, including CCTV analysis and speaking to local residents.

“As part of the investigation I’m keen to hear from anyone who was in the Cinnamon Brow area at the time this incident occurred and believes that they may have seen anything suspicious.

“I urge anyone with any information to contact the team here at Warrington on 101.”
