'PC Peacock reporting for duty sir'

Pluming 'ello 'ello 'ello: Officers were surprised to find an iridescent welcome on their doorstep

Metropolitan Police officers in Kensington and Chelsea are surrounded by finery but rarely does it come to visit them.
Shortly before 7am on Wednesday a peacock stood proudly reporting for duty outside Kensington Police station.
Officers tweeted a picture of their new colleague with the captions “PC Peacock reporting for duty, waiting outside #Kensingtonpolicestation”.

The tweet led to some debate about the sex of the peafowl and the whereabouts of its usual stomping grounds as well as the effect the new avian officer might have on colleagues.
@MPSKenChel @itvnews I know that peacock! He patrols the pleasant confines of Edwardes square often...

@MPSKenChel she is a peahen and is called Persephone. You can also find her in the Scarsdale pub after a busy shift.
