The standard of Police Oracle’s journalism has been recognised by the media industry.

Deputy Editor Ian Weinfass has been shortlisted in two categories at the inaugural British Journalism Awards for Specialist Media.

The new awards recognise “great journalism being carried out on specialist and [business-to-business] titles – and by specialist journalists working in the mainstream media”, according to organisers Press Gazette.

Ian has reported for Police Oracle since June 2014, and currently specialises in areas including detective work, terrorism and special constabulary matters.

He has been shortlisted in both the public sector and legal categories at the awards, and is up against reporters from publications including The Guardian and Health Service Journal.

The recognition is in particular for three articles - an analysis of the use of PFI in policing, revealing what a standards investigation into a chief constable found and a look at the extent of inconsistencies in the misconduct system.

The winners will be announced in September.
