We are currently recruiting for an experienced Vetting Researcher to work on a full-time, long-term contract in Exeter, Devon.
The role will be based with a UK Police Force.
The role is primarily office based and hours of work are Monday to Friday.
The rate of pay will be £12.92p per hour (PAYE).
Role overview:
To undertake analysis and evaluation of Force, National and other bespoke Police databases. To present relevant information in order to enable vetting decisions to be made by the Vetting Researcher and the Force Vetting Officer / Manager and Head of Professional Standards Department, in accordance with the Authorised Professional Practice for Vetting, the Police Code of Ethics and the Vetting Code of Practice.
Main Responsibilities
To know and be able to apply the principles in the Vetting Code of Practice, APP for Vetting and the Police Code of Ethics when researching vetting applicants and associates. To make critical decisions on which information is collated for presentation to the Force Vetting Officer.
Where suitable, to conduct low level financial interviews with new applicants in liaison with the Force Vetting Officer, in order to ascertain a candidate’s version of events and disclosures as declared on vetting forms, so that a fair and consistent vetting decision can be reached.
To make vetting decision recommendations to the Force Vetting Officer and to make vetting decisions that included low level negative traces. To provide advice to applicants and decision makers in relation to vetting procedures whilst accounting for the need to maintain the confidentiality of all vetting information and comply with the Data Protection legislation.
To carry out vetting project work as directed by the Force Vetting Officer and manage data when changes are recognised, including carrying out reciprocal vetting for other forces within the South West Vetting Collaboration of forces. Project work to include, but not limited to: TUPE transfers and management of data: Management of data for vetting renewals and recording of any issues pertaining to the completion of forms by applicants: Creation of data sets of all types of vetting levels to determine if a vetting level is still required or is not needed for the role type.
To manage Recruitment Campaigns in relation to vetting. Liaison with various departments across the Force and external agencies such as SW Forensics, the MOD and other Forces, ensuring that vetting policy is adhered to and recruitment deadlines are met.
To be responsible for the renewal of employees, volunteers and contractors including higher level vetting security appraisals that include MV, RV, SC, CTC, DV and NPPV levels of vetting.
Interrogate, research and analyse intelligence/information, using Force, National and other bespoke information systems, including PNC, PND, NICHE/Unifi, Centurion, Pentip, UKSV, Agresso, Experian and Social Networking Sites in relation to personal data relating to applicants to the force. Undertake vetting enquiries with and on behalf of this Force to other police forces. To utilise Interpol for relevant analysis if applicable and to liaise with the National Crime Agency if criminal traces are found.
Essential Experience:
Ability to evidence sound information gathering, research and analytical skills in order to evaluate, verify and analyse information and intelligence to make decisions.
Must be able to demonstrate a high level of competency of using information technology systems to carry out research and for the production and presentation of data. In particular, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills written and oral skills with the ability to interact, interview and present findings to staff at all levels.
A high level of self-motivation and innovation, to work unsupervised and proactively organise and prioritise workloads with minimal supervision and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
Systematic meticulous and flexible approach to the varied type of work.
A Clear understanding of the Data Protection Act as well as the Vetting Code of Practice/ APP in order to act with discretion and integrity as the post holder will be required to deal/handle with sensitive personal information.
