Britain most senior Ethnic Police Officers has been arrested over allegations he
fiddled expenses from the National Black Police Association.Superintendent Ali Dizaei, 39 – who was
tipped to become Britain's first ethnic chief constable - is the Black Police
Association's legal advisor and vice-chairman. He
attended at London's Charing Cross police station with his solicitor
where after being arrested he was quizzed about expenses claims, said to involve
several thousand pounds. He has been released on Police Bail to appear again in
a month’s time. In the
same case a female friend of the Officer, a married father of three was held for
questioning at nearby West End Central police station. Both arrests
follow a 14-month secret investigation. Superintendent Dizaei was suspended from duty
in January over claims of dishonesty, attempting to pervert the course of
justice and personal misconduct. His home in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, was searched. In
addition to the fraud allegations, Police are investigating claims of assault,
inappropriate relationship with prostitutes, misusing drugs, supplying bogus
references for passport applications, accepting free concert tickets and
divulging confidential information. He is
further said to have falsely claimed his BMW was vandalised outside his office, and to have used his
position to get a discount on a £2,500 Cartier watch. The
Iranian-born Dizaei is a qualified barrister. He denies all claims, believing he
is being targeted for his outspoken views on racism in the force. He is
taking the Met to an employment tribunal.
This
investigation and the publicity surrounding it is clearly another blow to the
Metropolitan attempt recruit officers from ethnic backgrounds to meet the level
set after the Lawrence Report |
