Illicit Duplication Plant in W. Mids.

Dudley factory unit raided revealing DVD duplication plant.

 

   On 5 September 2001 a raid was carried out by Dudley Trading Standards Department on a factory Unit in their area.  They had previously called in FACT Senior Investigator Alistair Donaldson after receiving information indicating that such activity was going on.  The early morning raid, conducted under the authority of a warrant issued under the Trades Description Act, revealed a large duplicating plant concealed in two offices.  Eight stacks of machines (44 machines in total) were found linked up to DVD machines and monitors.  In other parts of the unit 87 VCD and104 DVD masters were found stored.  Titles included Planet of the Apes, Scary Movie 2, Jurassic Park 3, A Knight’s Tale along with pornographic films. A number of electrical sockets were found to be connected by cable to sockets providing power to machinery in a legitimate part of the plant.   Around 1,000 tapes were found ready to go. Alistair Donaldson said:  “The significance of this seizure is considerable and will constitute a major blow to illicit dealers who patronised what was obviously an established source.  One arrest was made on the premises and another man is being sought.
