Trouble reading The PM, who is thought to have worn glasses in private for some time, finally plucked up the courage to go public. Addressing the London Press Club, Mr Blair told assembled journalists he had an important announcement. At first, the newsmen and women must have thought the PM was about to pull the election trigger earlier than expected. Who knows what they thought when he said..."I have to come out....". The suspense finally ended when Mr Blair pulled a pair of plain reading glasses from his pocket. He decided to come clean after running into trouble while reading a speech to a recent teachers' conference. Instead of bemoaning drug abuse and crime among "teenagers", his failing eyes read "teachers" - a mistake he didn't want to make again. Age "Some things in life you've just got to accept," he said. Mr Blair is understood to have taken the step reluctantly, feeling it was a concession to age. |
