Two Forces Investigated After Fatal RTC
28-Aug-08
Northamptonshire and Warwickshire police investigated by the IPCC following the death of a man...

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is investigating the actions of two police forces following the death of a 35-year-old man on Saturday 26 July 2008.

At approximately 9.25am on Saturday 26 July 2008, a man (now known to be Mr Wayne Teasdale of Whoberley, Coventry), is believed to have telephoned Northamptonshire Police from the A45 Mereway near to Barnes Meadow, Northampton.  A Northamptonshire police officer was deployed and after speaking to Mr Teasdale, took him in a police vehicle to the Texaco Service Station on the A45 at Thurlaston (near to Rugby along the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire county boundary).

At approximately 10.50am the same day, Warwickshire Police received three calls from members of the public reporting a man on the A45 road near to the Dunchurch Roundabout, Warwickshire. The callers were concerned for the man’s safety.  A police traffic vehicle was dispatched but prior to its arrival, Mr Teasdale died in a fatal road traffic collision.

The matter was referred to the IPCC by both Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Police and it has been determined that an independent investigation should be undertaken.

Ms Amerdeep Somal, IPCC Commissioner said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who saw Mr Teasdale on the morning of 26 July - either in the Barnes Meadow area in Northampton, or a little later when he was near the Texaco Station at Thurlaston on the A45 near Rugby.  I would ask anyone with information to contact us on 0800 096 9077 or email teasdale@ipcc.gov.uk

“Our investigation will be looking at how Mr Teasdale was dealt with by Northamptonshire Police following his initial report to police and also how Warwickshire Police responded to reports from the members of public who were clearly concerned about Mr Teasdale’s welfare.”.
