The Jim’ll Fix It star was given a high-visibility jacket by grateful police officers after he left his penthouse to help out.

Jimmy, 81, spent over an hour guiding cars past the wreckage in the Oakwood area of Leeds. Afterwards he said: “I was first on the scene so I sprang out to help.

“I was making sure the people were OK and there were no serious injuries — and it’s a wonder there weren’t, as both the cars were really damaged.

“But I wanted to make sure it would be safe for the emergency vehicles to pull up. I was directing the traffic through so it didn’t block up.

A copper came across and said, ‘You’re doing a great job there, Jimmy’ and gave me a high-visibility jacket to wear.

“I was just helping my fellow citizens.”

West Yorks Police said: “A member of the public did offer assistance.”
