Police Students Raise £25,100 For Charity
12-Mar-10
Met Student officers take time to work for charity during studies...

Student police officers from Hendon have raised a staggering £25,100 for various charities over the past 12 months.

Each intake chooses a charity and organises fundraising events. Students from intake 09/10 course five have recently raised £6,500 for 'Help for Heroes'.

The 187 students organised a number of sponsored activities. This included a cycle ride with a difference - cycling from London to Kabul in Croydon.

The event organised by PC Philip Dyal from Croydon, (pictured) took place in a gym where a group of students cycled 3,500 miles. The distance between London and Kabul.

Other activities included a swear box, cake sale, the use of the skid pan at Hendon, non uniform days, various raffles. All this fundraising culminated with a collection at the passing out parade from students, families and friends.

The group passed out of Hendon on 5 March and PC Philip Dyal presented a cheque to Mr Chris Cavendish from 'Help for Heroes'.

Sergeant Graham Watson said "I would like to thank all the students for their support and co-operation in raising this amount of money for this extremely worthwhile cause. It is always an honour to show support for the men and women of our armed forces."

Inspector Barry Simons said "It's excellent that students take such pride, and put so much effort into raising money for charity. The money often goes to support communities, to which they will be working.

"The fact that they carry out these fundraising activities in their own time, on top of studying is credit to their professionalism and productivity."
