Six police officers have been injured and seven people arrested during overnight clashes in east Belfast.

Police said they were dealing with "significant disorder" on Friday night after trouble flared following a march in east Belfast.

Rioting broke out in the Castlereagh Street and Albertbridge Road areas of the city.

Police vehicles were damaged and missiles have been thrown at officers trying to quell the disturbance, said a PSNI spokeswoman.

The trouble started following Friday's "mini Twelfth" parade.

Police vehicles were damaged and missiles were thrown at officers trying to quell the violence.

Officers used rubber bullets and a water cannon to try to disperse the crowds.

The spokeswoman said seven people were arrested for disorderly behaviour overnight.

Six officers were hurt during the disturbance by youths throwing masonry, but none of their injuries are said to be life threatening, she added.
