OAP Killed After Police Chase

Pensioner killed by stolen car the pursuit of which had been abandoned moments earlier following a collision.
A pensioner has died after being hit by a stolen car that was being chased by police moments earlier.
The 70-year-old was getting out of his Vauxhall Frontera after parking it in Moray Avenue, Hayes, west London, on Tuesday evening when he was hit and killed by the VW Golf.
Just minutes before the tragedy officers in a marked police car had abandoned a chase involving the Golf, after both vehicles collided with a stationary car.
The driver and a passenger of the hatchback, which had been reported stolen following a house burglary, escaped on foot following the fatal crash and remain at large.
Scotland Yard confirmed the Independent Police Complaints Commission and Directorate of Professional Standards have been informed about the incident.
A force spokesman said police were originally contacted at about 6.53pm by the owner of the Golf who saw it being driven away from his home.
Officers spotted the stolen vehicle in Dawley Road minutes later and began pursuing it.
During the chase, the Golf hit a Vauxhall Zafira at the junction of Botwell Lane and Church Road, before driving on.
The police car also hit the stationary Zafira and, although no one was injured, was forced to abandon the pursuit at 6.58pm.
The ambulance service informed police of the fatal collision in Moray Road just after 7pm.
Detective Sergeant Chris Osborne, from the Metropolitan Police, said: "We are keen to speak to anyone in the area who either saw the Golf being driven prior to the collision or anyone who saw the people responsible running away afterwards."
