The Mad Cop of Wandsworth will be back in action next April, in a crazy adventure to row across Europe dressed as a teddy bear and raise money for an Army charity.
Met officer PC Andy Seery has already completed more than 40 marathons this year, running from London to Poland in the guise of an ostrich for Help for Heroes.
Now he is in training for another epic journey, which will involve rowing to the Ukrainian border in a specially designed 13ft boat on wheels to raise bucket loads of cash for the Army Benevolent Fund, The Soldiers’ Charity (ABF).
The Lady Stefaniak has sails, a built-in undercarriage and is fitted with a rowing machine, which will power pulleys and cogs that turn the wheels as PC Seery ‘rows’.
He is working closely with the military on this latest escapade and is hoping his odyssey along almost 2,500km of European roads will boost donations to the ABF that supports injured troops and their families.
Despite still carrying a foot injury picked up as he ran to Poland, the madcap Mad Cop is already preparing for the 60km he must row each day if he is to cross France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany and Poland.
PC Seery’s respect for the Armed Forces is founded in a family tradition of joining up and his personal loss of a family member while on active service.
His costume for his latest adventure will be a teddy bear dressed in desert combats adorned with bandages and sticking plasters.
“It’s my hobby and it’s very exciting,” he explained to PoliceOracle.com. “You go to sleep and you don’t know where you are and when you wake up you still don’t know where you are.
“You don’t know what’s going to happen the next day, so it’s very exciting and it makes a difference. I’m just Mad Cop, aren’t I?”
The ABF will also receive the proceeds from PC Seery’s book, The Longest Plod, which will be on sale from Mid-December and details the highs and the lows of his
1,700km solo trek completed earlier this year.
