IT’S not often that you ask directions from a Metropolitan Police officer dressed as an ostrich – but London Mayor Boris Johnson found himself in that very situation.
The copper in question was PC Andy Seery – AKA Mad Cop – who is hot footing it from the capital to Poland in bird-man attire to raise money for wounded troops.
Boris looked a touch perplexed when the officer turned up outside the London Assembly but managed to wing the meeting and wish the PC all the best for his adventure – and a healthy return for military charity Help for Heroes.
Johnson told PoliceOracle.com: “Andy is supporting a great cause in Help for Heroes and will raise the profile of London policing on his travels.
“I think I am in the same place as a lot of other people when it comes to the Armed Forces – they are very close to my heart. Soldiers are doing a difficult job in demanding circumstances and they deserve our full support.”
Seery (43) – who is sponsored by PoliceOracle.com plus sister websites MoDOracle.com and Uniformdating.com – has been training hard for the challenge, which begins on April 1, and has been pushed to the point of exhaustion by military fitness freaks from the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards.
“The British Army doesn’t muck about when it comes to getting you in shape and I’ve been treated very much as one of the boys,” Seery said with a smile.
“There is a big affinity between the troops and the police and I know that Help for Heroes is a charity that they would want to support,” he concluded.
