Footballer Jailed For 7 Years
06-Oct-08
Luke McCormick jailed for the crash in which two young brothers were killed....

Jailed ex-Plymouth Argyle goalie Luke McCormick drove "like an idiot" when he killed two boys in a motorway smash.

The fallen star was handed seven years and four months behind bars today for causing the deaths of Arron Peak, ten, and his brother Ben, eight.

McCormick had earlier pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

Motorists saw McCormick “driving like an idiot” and estimated his speed at around 90mph, the court had heard.

The 25-year-old also admitted a drink driving charge when he appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, in Staffordshire, this morning.

He had been more than twice the drink drive limit.

The boys’ mother, Amanda Peak, sobbed loudly as the court heard details of the crash.

In a victim statement submitted to the judge, Mr and Mrs Peak wrote: “Our whole lives have been shattered ... all our hopes and dreams for the future have been taken away from us.”

The brothers, from Partington, Manchester, were killed on the M6 in Staffordshire on June 7.

They had been on their way to the Silverstone racetrack for a dream day out with their dad and three pals before McCormick’s black Range Rover crashed into their car.

Dad Phil Peak, 37, was at the wheel of a Toyota and was seriously injured in the crash.

McCormick, dressed in a dark suit, kept his head bowed and covered his face with his hand as it was revealed he told eyewitnesses at the scene: “I am so sorry, I’m sorry. I just fell asleep. I fell asleep, I’m sorry.”
