A West Yorkshire Police Detective Constable has won praise for the second year running for his commitment and expertise in developing the Secured by Design Project (SBD) at a National Crime Prevention / Architectural Liaison Training Event.
DC Michael Brooke, Force Architectural Liaison Officer (ALO) for West Yorkshire Police's Local Policing Department, who has served with the force for 28 years, was presented with an Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) SBD Award by Alan McInnes, Director and General Manager of SBD.
The award highlighted DC Brooke's commitment to the SBD programme, such as his contribution to the 2008 Designing Out Crime Conference in West Yorkshire, which he described as, "an excellent event where over 200 local partners received training on designing out crime from national experts, enabling those present to share their own experiences and tips for success."
In addition to the award plaque he received, DC Brooke was also presented with a £5,000 cheque for West Yorkshire Police to promote or support SBD related activity.
DC Michael Brooke said: "I am delighted by the award. As a crime prevention tool, SBD has been a real success wherever it has been used, particularly in West Yorkshire where Police and partners have worked hard to minimise the risk of crime in new buildings and the surrounding environments."
In excess of 10,000 properties in West Yorkshire have now been given SBD status by West Yorkshire Police after being designed and built with the assistance of the force's ALO's.
