Two men have been arrested as part of Scotland Yard's investigation into computer hacking, a police spokesman said.

A 50-year-old man was arrested at his home in Hertfordshire on the morning of Friday February 24 and a 51-year-old man was then arrested in Surrey at 16:15 hours.

Both men are suspected of committing offences under the Computer Misuse Act 1990 and the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000.

The Scotland Yard spokesman said: "These arrests are not directly linked to any news organisation or the activities of journalists."

A search was carried out in Hertfordshire at the first man's home. He is in custody at a West London police station, while the other man remains in custody in south-west London.

The arrests were made by officers from Scotland Yard's Operation Tuleta, which is investigating allegations regarding breach of privacy that fall outside the remit of Operation Weeting, the force's phone-hacking probe.

There are currently 16 police staff working specifically on Operation Tuleta.

DAC Sue Akers recently told the Leveson inquiry that the operation was investigating 57 separate allegations of data intrusion. Some related to Metropolitan police inquiries going back as far as the late 1980s, she told the inquiry.
