The Chief Constable of Wiltshire Police, Brian Moore, has been seconded to head the new UK Border Force from next month, the Home Secretary has announced.
CC Moore is to take the helm following the suspension and resignation last year of predecessor, Brodie Clark. He was accused of relaxing border controls beyond the levels that had been authorised by ministers – claims he has robustly and consistently denied.
Home Secretary Theresa May has split the UKBA and the UK Border Force, the section of the Agency that manages entry into the UK. She said the Force would have its own distinctive “ethos” in future.
CC Moore has been at the helm of Wiltshire Police for four years and the secondment effectively marks the end of his tenure. He is due to be replaced by DCC Patrick Geenty until a Police and Crime Commissioner initiates a formal recruitment process in November.
The Chief’s contract was due to expire in December 2012. Wiltshire Police Authority Chairman, Christopher Hoare, said CC Moore would be “greatly missed”.
He added: “We are supporting this secondment of Brian Moore to the UK Border Force where he will be engaged in work of national importance.
“We are sure he will make an invaluable contribution, and felt that his skills and experience should be made available in the national interest.”
Mr Hoare added: “Under his leadership Wiltshire has become the safest county in England and Wales. We know he will be greatly missed by the public, Wiltshire Police and our partners.
“Wiltshire Police Authority recognises, and is very grateful for, Brian’s outstanding contribution to the policing of Wiltshire and Swindon.”
