Shooting Incident: Armed Police Deployed

A man has been arrested and held over a shooting in Southampton, after which armed officers were deployed.
The 25-year-old man remains in custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent following a shooting in the Bitterne area of the city.
The victim – a 27-year-old man – received medical attention around 22:00 Hours on February 19. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Hampshire Constabulary has dismissed reports that a second shooting also occurred. Its detectives are investigating the case as part of Operation Saddlewood.
A statement said: “Hampshire Constabulary would like to reassure the community that there remains no information to suggest a second shooting in Bitterne or any wider threat to public safety.”
Armed officers were sent to the area to begin an investigation and cordons and diversions are set to remain in place for the time being.
The statement added: “Police would like to thank the South Central Ambulance Service and members of the public for their assistance with the police response.”
