Didnt really know where to put this, so I will put it here and a mod can chuck it wherever they see fit.

I thought it would be interesting to hear others musical tastes. Who knows, we may introduce one another to new and unconsidered euphony. Personally I have a VERY diverse taste in music, and tonight my recommendation for your listening pleasure is this...truly magical...

Mozart - Requiem - Confutatis and Lacrimosa

Used to hate when old aunts came up to me after weddings and said "u r next" They stopped that when I did the same to them after funerals...

Ahh, music. I also have a very diverse taste; Classical, Jazz, Blues, and choral (I sing in a Welsh Male Voice Choir). Most music, in fact, except the wailing Country and Western and rap (which isn't music).

Thanks Both, two beautiful pieces of music.

Bryan Ferry must have teflon trousers on dancing in that fire !, brought back some memories for me though

Katie Melua, never really listened to her before, but I shall make a point of doing so now...

Like Pen, my tastes are so diverse. I'm picky about Pop but can like really schlocky stuff (Spice Girls), love early music, almost anything classical (as long as it isn't too atonal); wild about Gershwin and Copeland; getting into Elgar; John Rutter arranged or conducted Christmas carols; Early Motown, AC/DC, Nirvana, Pumpkins. Love, love, love Bluegrass (there are some really good groups coming along now); like traditional Scots, Irish, Breton and Cornish music; Japanese Koto music; bangra; Broadway tunes; early Jazz (anything before 1943) and some Country. Like World Music but not much into rap or hip-hop.

People are always shocked that I mix all of these on my ipod.

For my choice today, I will pick something that is in Croby's list also, and a very interesting and clever video demonstrating Architectural Projection Mapping on Rochester Castle...

I'm like Penb' & Croby', I like almost anything except the stuff that passes for music these days.

I particularly like Welsh Male Voice choirs (hairs of the back of the neck tingling stuff) and being based in Africa, lots of local choirs too. I am a great fan of Ladysmith Black Mabazo & the Soweto String Quartet - classical / modern fusion strings whose members trained at the Royal Northern College of Music, in God's own city - Manchester! Elgar always strikes a chord for me and being an Anglo-Irish Northerner - brass bands and the Chieftains are favourites. I'm also a Glen Miller fan - not sure why just like the style...............

Indeed, I have the Rhythms of Africa CD in my collection. It was through Paul Simon's music that I first heard them. Does seem we are a forum of diverse tastes...

Penby's choir is more than worth going to, I have been twice and intend to go again in October.  The Chapel is fabulous in design with very intricate woodworkings.  If anyone wants two hours of first class entertainment, try a visit.

Thanks for the plug, Mav.Thumbs%20Up

If anyone else is interested in going, this year it is Saturday 30th October. We have invited two other local choirs to take part this year so some of the pieces will be the traditional Welsh choir songs best sung by large choirs (we should have around 100 voices). We will, of course, also be singing on our own. Should be a very good concert.

If any regular members wish to go, contact me by PM for further details (location, time, cost, etc).

Fascinating. When I left school I studied photography at Rochester and I know that castle extremely well. I have dozens and dozens of photographs of it somewhere in the house.

Hi Croby with that sort of eclectic taste you'd probably get on with 85%+ of my iToons collection. I love old blues, and as above good modern electric blues (I also like older electric blues such as Peter Green Mr Clapton, Free etc).
Both Saph & I are semi-hooked on light classical as well, (prefearbly conducted by a 60 year-old Dutch multi millionaire conductor and his ensemble)

The name doesn't ring a bell and a couple of my colleagues haven't heard it either ........... I'm not very good with individual singers - I tend to listen to groups....

I'm definitely one for mood music: my i-phone varies from Nirvana, through Guns n'Roses to Foo Fighters to Frank Sinatra & Elgars Pomp & Circumstance: depending on how fit I feel depends on what I listen to at the gym: always a problem when I decide to go for it to Guns & Roses!!

I left out Opera. This is one form of music that I really prefer to see and hear in live performance.

OAH apparantly she is having a great hit in SA with her song My African Dream. There are clips ob Youtube of her performance with Andre Rieu on his recent tour. A very nice voice, especially her Ave maria....
