Oh no, not again.

Best wishes to PC Brown and her family. I hope Notts Police find the bastard quickly (and he tries it on with an armed officer and loses).

Vision Up.....

how many more of us must die politicians before you give us the correct kit for the job.

I also note that the officer was also wearing body armour too, as was Sharon Beshenovsky. Surely the issue body armour needs to be looked at

This time the bullet apparently went underneath the body armour - into abdomen area.  Is this something that needs looking at, i.e., is our armour too short?

Incidently Outgoing Head of ACPO Sir Chris Fox stated that police shouldn't wear their body arnour all the time as it looks oppressive. Surely they should start the drug testing with ACPO!!!!

I reckon we now have a good idea why he is outgoing!!!  What planet was he born on - 3 officers shot in a few months - one killed - he must be having a laugh.  This just reinforces the need for us all to wear them when on patrol.

Terrible news.   I wish PC Brown a speedy recovery.

I have always thought my body armour was too short.   This will always be at the back of my mind from now on.

i have to rant here as pc brown should not have had this happen, i dont care about the fluffy faced "customer service" bull we have to display, we are law enforcement and thats what we do, if we look oppressive then so be it, the only people that will feel oppressed are the people who need to be.

Yet again the shambles that is the government are letting us all down. If this was the fire service we would be on strike right now

Once again we have the bean-bag head of ACPO coming out with inane comments. he will be telling firearms officers next not to point their guns at armed criminals, AS IT LOOKS AGGRESIVE. Hounds and Fox come to mind.

I wish PC Brown a speedy recovery and hope she is soon back at work looking  after the people of Nottingham, which she was doing on this occasion, I hope they all appreciate that.

Firstly, I wish Pc Brown a speedy recovery and my thoughts are with her at this terrible time. I've just heard on the news that luckily the hospital where she was taken is only a matter of minutes away from the scene and thankfully she received very prompt life saving medical attention.

My initial reaction to this news, like that of recent events in Bradford, is one of shock, sadness and then anger.  I don't think as long as I ever serve in this 'job' that such emotions with ever abate when hearing the news that a colleague as been seriously injured or killed in the line of duty.  It is a risk we all take - yet we take that risk with guts, courage and determination to protect an often unappreciative public, many of whom would 'run' a mile from many of the situations we are expected to face on a daily basis, armed only with a 'stick' and CS spray.

As the staus of Constable continues to be diminished by this governement and the service itself, we have become almost expendable.  Yes, I have no doubt that the service and governement alike will make statements wishing Pc Brown well - but will they actually address the real issues around how appropriately equipped we are in an ever increasingly violent society?  redneck is entirely right - if this was the fire service, we'd have been out on strike some considerable time ago now.  Afterall, would we send fire fighters into a fire without the appropriate breathing apparatus?  But it would seem more importantly that the public need protecting from us and the rights of violent and dangerous criminals at large in our communities in greater need of protection than those who enforce the law.

Meanwhile, the government is to re hash murder laws - and those who kill Police Officers will be afforded the same considerations in sentencing as other killers.  Oh, the esteem we seem to be held in these days.  We really don't stand a chance, do we?...

I also have to echo everyones thoughts.

First to the family and coleagues of the injured officer. We are all blue and once again the scum of this earth have attacked our family. I hope this sl*g is caught quickly, resists arrest and gets some proper justice.

Secondly WHEN IS THE GOVERNMENT GOING TO LISTEN TO US? They keep saying gun crime is a major problem, they insist that we wear body armour all of the time and yet don't think that the people who patrol the streets day in and day out deserve some protection?? I dont want to die cowering behind a car wondering whether or not the wannbe gansta is going to shoot me for some street cred, become a legend in prison and be let out early by this government

It's no wonder that all the federation votes on whether or not we should be armed end up showing that most officers don't see the need for all officers to be armed when the majority of officers in uniform dont seem to work on response teams and go hide in control rooms, CPU's, Partnership Units, CJU's and Management Information Units as they can't handle the street anymore.

The federation should ony give the vote to the front line units who are on the street all of the time dealing with these fu%*ers.

ARV's all well and good going into a house or ambushing someone going over the pavement but they are never there when you need them.

What we have at the moment is a situation where the mere mention of a gun results in the whole world and his dog going to an RVP waiting for 40 mins for an ARV by which time whatevers happend has happened, whoevers done it has gone and whoevers been shot is probably dead.

The other side of it is that the caller has stated that a gun has been seen just to us there quickly which results in all the boroughs resources being tied up for an hour and the central units (dogs, ARV's ASU) being wasted on a LOB

As you can tell i am pretty angry about the whole thing.

these comments are similar to my fire arms poll, this incident along with the others we have had over the past 2 years are showing more and more that weather we like it or not, the side arm is becoming ever more needed by frontline officers.

Just give me a f............g gun right NOW!

Lets stop all this pretence of the halcyon days of Enid Blyton and Dixon of Dock Green.....It's a big bad world out there.

The situation as ever is head in the sand "Ostrich syndrome".....the service thinks the day it goes armed will be the day it admits defeat.

Well Chris Fox, and Iain Blair.....we lost control many years ago.....shove your community policing up where the sun don't shine.

Do you think some plod on a bike, kissing kids and helping granny across the road is ever going to stop gun crime.

If the government want to push ahead with their Respect Agenda well then give me a gun......I think I'll get a bit more respect then.

Its the same old situation of Hans Christian Anderson's "The Kings new clothes"....well the truth, "We are stark bollock naked".

Forget the debate about ballistic vests....the best form of protection is a mahogany desk and a big leather chair.

Do the public really give a s...t when they go abroad to France, Spain, Germany etc etc, where the police al routinely carry a gun...No they don't.

Give me a gun......Get used to it......and get over it.

here here jc fan club, if some foolio wants to shoot at me he can have a magazine of american eagle 9mm back at him, fired from me, a trained office (hyperthetical) my chief said to me yesterday, "if we routinley arm then we become fair game" im fair game with out a glock 17 so give me a fighting chance. i do this job for many reasons, they out way the reasons not to do it and should i ever have the horror off being killed helping catch an offender who shoots me over £5 of stolen beer i hope blaire (both of em) my boss and the whole stinking system can tell my kid why daddy had to be shot with no protection.

glock 17= £250 x 100, 000 officers less non front line officers = roughly 60, 000 front line officers = more police alive at the end of the day

All very true.

I personally think that all this nonsense about us not looking aggressive is bollocks. Yes we have a lovely tradition of policing by consent but I would far rather be able to be assertive and equipped enough to protect those who pay us.

Quite frankly I cannot give two hoots about the criminal fraternity's view of us. In my opinion we pussyfoot around the issue of force far too much, people need to learn that there is a line, and if they overstep that they will be dealt with with impunity.

I am not one of those to shy away from force. I have used ASP and CS several times in a short career, because that is what they are there for. My use of them is always justified.

Even still though, why do the published guidelines from the government about use of force always being justified except if "manifestly excessive" in the case of homeowners not seem to apply to us?

Bring it on. TASER to all officers as a starting point.

Wishing Pc Bown a speedy recovery, but I have to say its not the equipment you have to wear these days thats the problem.
Isnt it the wishy washy , namby pamby ,bleedin' heart judiciary (and I include parliament in this) that has got the whole sentencing thing wrong ?. Criminals do not fear punishment any more, yes I know we imprison more people than any other country in Europe ,we have to because prison here is such a soft option,
(6 moons ,Ill do that standing on me head)
Lets make the punishment fit the crime and if the judge says ten years let it be ten years.
If only to dicourage the others.
