He probably wasn't too happy because he lost his case, which he probably put in many hours of work, which could have been saved if the CPS had had the guts to write NFA on the file at an early stage.

You know, I feel uneasy when police officers say things like this. It's as if he has judged the case iun his own mind. It['s not his job to make judgements, it's his job to ensure that evidence is gathered and presented to those making the judgements.
Whatever his private thoughts I think they should remain private in the face of a Jury's decision.
Otherwise Jurors will feel they have to go with the police decision, as it were. ie the defendant is in court so they must be guilty. If I were on that Jury I would feel"Told off" and if I were the Defendant I would feel that the Jury's decision was undermined. If I were a neighbour I might think the Defendant was guilty despite the verdict.
So to my mind, comments like that are out of order. STFU and take the verdict on the chin, sir.

Another by-product of the CPS? If he had had to present the case at committal, he may have seen things through different eyes.

Maybe... or maybe the CPS made a complete balls up of the case, and he's frustrated.
It must be galling if you gather the evidence then someone else apparently screws up the prosecution.

It is always the CPS who screw up cases. They are the ones that check the files and ask for further enquiries etc etc, if required, and decide if the case should go ahead. If the trial goes ahead and fails it is often because the CPS have not asked for further enquires, then they BLAME the POLICE for the failure.(thats a bit of a generalisation, but near enough the truth).
