You need to visit in January. People still wear them here. I have my mother's mink double breasted but need to get it fitted so I can wear it.

I found a sweet shop in St Nicholas Market, in Bristol, that has almost every sweet you could think of, ones that I bought in the 50's and 60's that I didn't think existed anymore. You couldn't move for customers, it took me twenty minutes to get my Sherbert Dips, Liquorice Torpedos and Army/Navy sweets.  Well worth a vist if you are in the area.

We've been make to feel guilty about fur coats by the RSPCA etc.

I'm not sure I like wild trapped furs, nor do I think I'd wear a mink fur, but perst fur like fox or squirrel, or rabbits which can be eaten too, why not?

Being somewhat poor, my dad made my Davey Crocket hat by sewing a squidgel tail to a benny hat!

In fact, along with "a sense of proportion" it's such a rare commodity these days in all walks of life .......... it cannot be taught and the lack of it amongst "leaders' effectively means it will diminish completely in the not-too-distant future!

Kraft has become a very dirty word for Cadbury workers. The longer their stuff is missing, the better.

'Green Shield Stamps' at filling stations.... But I guess those have been replaced by superstore Loyalty Cards nowadays.........

Free Whiskey and Drinking Glasses when buying 5 gallons of petrol.... a promotional gimick from the 1970s. My brother still has one lonely glass left from those days. In the early years of his marriage, he and his wife collected about a dozen drinking glasses... the passage of time and tide has taken its toll...!!Cry

Ah yes, the good old petrol freebies. I never collected the football medals and such like, but had a good set of veteran/vintage car pics and 1970s F1 car pics. Jet seemed to me to give out the best stuff, and I also still have one glass of the bird tumbler glasses sets.

I cashed in my last stash of Green Shield stamps in 1976 just before I headed off the Germany on  my last posing abroad. Good job I did because they were defunct when I got back.
