With respect, sir, you can't just make people disappear.
Yes I can, I'm the Chief Inspector.

I wouldn't want that job for a pension..........

Oh, hang on.  How big is the salary and pension?

Erm.

No.  Not even for that.  Totally thankless task and those that would thank you are only doing so because they've got a political reason to do so.

Must be one of the loneliest jobs going.

At least when I go to work I don't have to think twice about trusting the bloke standing next to me with a gun.  None of us, to a man (or woman) would think about dropping any of our colleagues in the crap in order to get on in their career.

It's one of the major advantages of being a grunt. Smile

Bernard Hogan-Howe would be an ideal Commissioner in my opinion; he has achieved fantastic results in Merseyside with the 'Total Policing' initiative and is the complete opposite of Ian Blair's softly and politely Policing together communities forever with love and kisses approach. But why anyone would want the job is beyond me.

It appears to me that who ever takes up this appointment will have a very rough ride with Boris at one side, Jacqui Smith on the other, and a fragmented dissatisfied high command in the middle, not to mention a few hundred other thorns in the side which have to be dealt with just to go along with!

No amount of money, under the present circumstances, would persuade me that this will be a challenging post - an almost impossible one - yes!  Whoever take this up will either fall on his sword or have to live by it.  To start off he will have to instill discipline and loyalty in his top command - and that will be very difficult!

He will have my admiration if he manages to do it!

I think Hugh Orde may be the candidate for the job, his track record in Northern Ireland speaks for itself, and in the days when the Met Commissioners job is becoming more political, maybe it is time that a political savvy Commisioner was appointed.

I think Sir Hugh might be a match for those politicians!

Quite a portfolio for experience...the Met, terrorism, resource management, Ulster, Lancashire and he survived Merseyside!

It should be an interesting posting that will not prove dull...

I wonder what the next headline will be & will Conservatives, other than Boris, like him?

Have you really looked at this man's background, what he achieved with Lancashire Police, the ideas he implemented and most importantly the results?

He is finally out from behind the shadow of the former Commisioner.  Please stop the cynicism and give the man a chance.

He is a hard working Northerner and he may surprise you.

While he was in charge, Lancashire was consistently in the "top tier" of police performance league tables, says the Metropolitan Police.

That doesn't bode well. We all now know how those league tables are formed and it is not by good quality policing. It sounds like you are right, Mav.

Yet more cynicism?

His way of dealing with people, his service & hardworking attitude, will stand him in good stead and is not likely to change.

Most of all people who have worked under him like his example and hard working approach...Give him a chance.

Why the negativity of much Press, media and so many of the people?.

It all appears to be self defeating and may play a part in outcomes.

Why the support for someone you don't know? Could it be that his brand of left wing politics that has lifted Lancashire in the tables is the same as yours?
